FAS Employee Referral Program

All active FAS faculty and staff, on Harvard payroll, are eligible to participate in the program.

The following individuals are not eligible to participate in the program:

• Harvard temporary and LHT staff, as well as, staff not on Harvard's payroll.
• Employees responsible for or with influence over the hiring of the referred employee. This includes, recruiters, leaders with general oversight for hiring in their areas, interviewing committee members, team interviewers or others providing feedback throughout the interview process.  Examples include instances where the referring employee:
  • is involved in the interview for the referred employee
  • is involved in resume or application review for the position
  • is asked for feedback related to the hiring decision
  • is an Administrator in a department or unit who is responsible for the general leadership of the department where the position is open
• FAS Human Resources

A candidate must apply to the Job Requisition for which they were referred in order to be considered an Employee Referral (Harvard Careers). 

• When applying thru Harvard Careers, the candidate will have an opportunity to indicate how they first heard about the position and list the current employee who referred them to the position.  The candidate will want to make sure to answer these questions and list the name of the FAS employee who referred them.

If a candidate is a former Harvard University employee, the individual must have a break in service of 12 months or greater from date of referral.

Current Harvard University students and benefits eligible staff, temporary/casual/LHT workers and employees working at Harvard University payrolled thru a 3rd party are ineligible to be considered an employee referral. 

The ERP bonus award will be paid as soon as possible in the month after the month when the referred employee completes 3 months in the position and/or the orientation and review period, whichever is longer.  The payment is made on the condition that the hired employee will have completed their orientation and review period in good standing and both the referring and hired employee are employed by the FAS, and active on the payroll at the time payment is to be made. ERP awards must be paid through the payroll system, are considered taxable income, and are subject to withholding.

In the case of multiple referrals for the same candidate, the referral bonus will be paid to the person who referred the candidate first.
